high five for friday

Happy Friday, dudes!
How has your week been? Mine's been good apart from the cray traffic that my city has been experiencing this week; seriously I've never seen anything like it. Our usual 40 minute commute has been taking over an hour and I don't like it :(

So, I'm soooooo glad it's finally Friday!

1 | Hubs & I had a lovely weekend.

2 | It was my 31st birthday on Monday and after a long, slow day at work, I came home, put on my pjs and chilled out while Hubs made us some dinner.
It was a pretty perfect evening.

3 | Supernatural had a great episode this week, from the perspective of the third main character of the show, the brothers' car, affectionately known as Baby :)

4 | On Wednesday night, I got to attend a press event for work and dragged Hubby along for the ride; a local company was showcasing their new season homewares, so I thought we'd get some inspiration for the new house, which thankfully we did. We were also given a goody bag each, which contained some cool bits and pieces...

5 | We've got some furniture shopping planned for tomorrow, as well as a roast dinner at my parents' house planned for Sunday; it's another busy weekend with not much time at home, but it should be fun. I have to confess, I am super looking forward to next weekend where we have a whole weekend at home planned - it sounds like utter bliss!

Whatever you're up to this weekend, have a good one!

So long October,
you flew by in the blink of an eye (like your older sister September) and provided us with oddles of fun,
so I look forward to seeing you again next year...

Happy hump day!

birthday weekend recap

Happy Monday, blogland.
How was your weekend? Mine was good. It's my birthday today, so Hubs and I had a fun-filled weekend that involved lots of fresh air, more jobs done in the house and quality time spent together and with our loved ones...

Saturday morning we had an alarm fitted in our house, and then we headed off to a local park for a guided walk to see the stags rutting...

We got a bit rained on, but it was a fantastic afternoon. We're planning to do another guided walk next year but a little earlier in the rutting season because the stags were so tired after two weeks of fighting and shagging!

Sunday saw us up early to cheer on my little brother who was running his first half marathon; he did it in a fantastic 1 hour
and 56 minutes! I'm so proud :)

After a celebratory family meal, we spent the rest of the day doing some more jobs around the house, including planting up some containers to give the garden some colour this winter.

The day ended with cake and a great new TV programme.

Have a great week!

I've always wanted a home that's a castle;
not literally, but in the 'Englishman's home is his castle' proverb kinda way.

Our last home was not a castle.

However, this small-looking, three-bed new build is now my castle and I am its Queen.

Although we have only lived here for a month, this home is filled with love.

Love is what our old house was lacking in, not between Hubs and I but between us and the brick and mortar; from the damp patches by the conservatory and the unkempt garden to the curling wallpaper on the ceilings (! who does that) and the stains in the living room carpet, it was obvious that we didn't love our old home (the reason for which I wrote about here).

But our new home, this new home is bursting with love.

In just 30 short days, our home is already filled with memories; I look at the lounge door and remember the stress of moving house and the overwhelming feeling of having everything we owned crammed downstairs  reduce me to tears, I look at our bed and remember lazy weekend mornings and early weekday nights, and I look at the garden, with its tiny patch of turf and endless sea of soil, and I remember the afternoon spent planning what we want to do with our slice of outdoor space (which is surprisingly bigger than our neighbours').

In one month we've already loved this home more than we loved our previous home in the last three years.

Since moving in, we've had flooring laid, bought new furniture and cleaned the kitchen a gazillion times (because, as I've discovered, there's nothing more satisfying than a clean kitchen); our new build is slowly becoming a home...

As you can see, this is where the bulk of our 'crap' is hiding. We don't have any bedroom carpets as yet, because we're waiting for our Master wardrobes to be sorted (they're being extended), so until they're done, there's not much point unpacking everything as it'll only have to be moved again when the carpets are laid!

There's still a way to go; there's photos to go up on the walls, paint choices to mull over and more furniture to buy, but this place really does feel like home, and I can't wait to spend the next decade (and beyond) making more memories here with the man I love.

high five for friday

Happy Friday, readers!
How's your week been? I've had a good but long one; I'm soooo looking forward to relaxing on the sofa tonight
with some bad TV. Speaking of the sofa...

1 | Our brand new sofa arrived on Monday :)
We ordered her (yes, she's a she) just over five weeks ago and ever since we sold our beloved old sofa to a friend little over four weeks ago I've missed having a proper sofa to sit and cuddle up on (we've been using a two seater and camping chairs). While she's still a little new and not as comfy as I'd like, I'm sure she'll soon mould to my shape and be as comfy as our previous sofa!

2 | Last Friday night, my bro and I headed to Northampton to watch The Shires, a UK country duo, in concert; they were amazing live and even brought some great supports acts along.

3 | On Wednesday night, we had my bestie and her boyf over for tea and a snoop at our new home. They loved it, although they're thinking of moving and I think I helped my bestie earn a few points for her corner as she wants a new build while her boyf wants them to buy a fixer-upper he's fallen in love with!

4 | Despite the odd day of rain, the weather has been fantastic lately; it's feeling rather autumnal!

5 | I've had a go at two new recipes this week, both of which were a hit, so I think they'll be added to the usual repertoire :)

Cup of Tea
Have a great weekend!

birthday wish

There are just five days until my birthday.
I'll be 31 years old.

This time last year I did many-a-blog-post about my impending birthday milestone, but this year it doesn't seem so momentous.

I guess it's not.

I had planned to do a birthday wish list post this year, but having just moved into a gorgeous new home, and having treated myself (at hubby's insistence) to a Mulberry handbag, there isn't a great deal I want.

I need some new black ankle boots for work for the winter and I could also do with a new cream/white jumper as my current one is looking very tired and bobbley, but other than that, there's nothing I want or need.

I guess you know you're getting older (and wiser) when you don't really need to wait for birthdays to enjoy new things, or to buy things for the sake of it.

The past 12 months since turning 30 have been awesome, so my birthday wish for 2015 is that the next 12 months are just as fun-filled, family-centric and leave me feeling content with my life and the woman I am.

Happy hump Back to the Future day!
