C is for Cooking

I love cooking; this is a recent discovery! I bought a house with my hubby five and a half years ago and have had to fend for myself ever since. My cooking skills have developed greatly from that first fateful night (I burnt some oven chips and Hubby actually broke a tooth) and I now have a handful of recipes under my belt, including (but not limited to): (veggie) spaghetti bolognese, (veggie) chilli con carne, salmon rissotto, mushroom risotto, numerous soups and a handful of sauces, as well as my latest addition, quinoa chilli. My next task is to learn how to make a few desserts, especially seeing as I have such a sweet tooth.

What's your favourite meal to cook? Have you got any cool recipes to share?

  2. I love cooking. My favourite kind of dishes at the moment are slow cooked. I love how all the flavours merge when you throw everything into a huge pot and let it bubble quietly for hours. I did cooking for the A to Z today as well, but I did C is for Cakes. I just made a pound cake as well - I have to ice it later :).

    1. I keep hearing a lot of good things about slow cookers, maybe time to invest in one. I love cakes but am really rubbish at making them! Thanks for stopping by :)

  4. You have some tasty looking dishes there! I don't consider myself a great cook (and probably why I don't really like to do it if there's something better to do), but I persevere and I've managed to turn out edible meals for the family every night for many years now. I guess practice makes perfect. :-) I love the slow cooker! Drop stuff in and forget about it. That's my type of cooking!

  8. Hi,

I must admit I am not a cook and I don't like it at all, but your pictures look good. They show that you love what you are doing, so I wish you all the best.

Just stopping by to say hello on this wonderful blog challenge.

  19. Mmmmm, food. I'm the only vegetarian in my family, so it's often up to me to microwave my own soy nuggets. (How gross does that sound? They're good, either way!) I love quinoa though, so quinoa chili sounds delicious. :)

    1. I'm a veggie living with a meat eater too Madeline and I don't find it too difficult to make meals we can both eat. I often have to make a meat version and a veggie version but it's not that hard. I'm lucky though because Hubby will eat veggie meals - he loves my Quorn fajitas and my veggie spaghetti bolognese :)

  20. Those are some fancy meals you cook. My favorite meals are the easy peasy throw in the crockpot ones. The house smells good all day and I'm not in a rush to make dinner at that horrible time of day when my children are insane and I'm starving:D Thanks for visiting my blog!

    1. Have you thought about cooking the things you usually make but substituting some of the ingredients for healthier versions? You could try making bolognese or chilli with vegetarian mince or just adding more veggies to each dish, or you could make your own sauces. I'm sure there are some low-fat sauce recipes out there. You shouldn't have to give up the foods you love because you're dieting! Good luck with the diet and thanks for stopping by :) I'm now following your awesome blog!

  24. I love to cook too, but with it just being me and hubby I don't get to experiment much at home. Fortunately, I work in a restaurant so it works out... sorta. After a long shift, the last thing I want is to come home and cook more. LOL
